HZL was incorporated in January 1966 as a public sector company after the take over of the erstwhile Metal Corporation of India Limited (MCI), to develop mining and smelting capacities to substantially meet the domestic demand of zinc and lead metals.

HZL’s operations are broad based and its activities range from exploration, mining and ore processing to smelting and refining of lead, zinc, cadmium, cobalt, copper and other precious metals. It also produces sulphuric acid and rock phosphate. The company is looking forward to opportunities in gold, other minerals and new business areas.
